File

New Document
Use this command to create a new document.

  1. Default Page
    The size and units will be those previously saved with the menu command Preferences + Default page... This is usually the most used page format.
  2. Printer Sheet...
    The size of the page will be copied from your printer. Useful for a document to be printed.
  3. Drawing to export...
    This command lets you set the size of the page in pixel units. Choose this command if you want to export your drawing in JPG, GIF or PNG format, useful for the Web or email, or in WMF format to be inserted in another document (word processor document for example).
  4. From a Template...
    The page size, units and content will be copied from a template previously saved with the menu command File + Save as Template... Saving a document as a template does not change it's name, it merely save a copy to be used as a template. Templates may contain objects.

Open
Use this command to open an existing document.

Close
Closes the current document. It it has been modified, gPage will ask you to save modifications first.

Save
Use this command to save the current document on your hard disk. If the document is new, you'll be asked to name it first.

Save All
Saves all open and modified documents in one step.

Save as
Use this command to rename a document.

Save as Template
Saves a copy of the actual document to serve as a template to create a new document of the same type at a later time. See File + New document.

Recent Files
gPage remembers the last 8 files you worked on. Choose this command to open one of these files. You can erase the names (not the documents) with the Erase command.

Export
Use this command to export your drawing as WMF, JPG, GIF or PNG image files. To export a smaller image, choose a zoom value lesser than 100% (unavalaible for WMF).
You can also choose a compression value for the JPG format. A high value gives a better image quality but with bigger file size. A low value gives a smaller file size but a lower quality image. Default value is 75.

Exit
Use this to exit gPage. You'll be asked to save last modifications to documents, if any.


Print

Print
Use this command to print the current document.

Print Zoom
Use this command to change the size of the printed drawing. gPage will use many sheets if needed. If the zoom value is not 100%, gPage will pop up this dialog box every time you print for confirmation.


Objects

New Object
Choose an object in the submenu to drop it on the page. See the page Adding Objects for details.

Modify
Use this command to modify a common parameter for a group of objects.

Move
Use this command to move a group of objects.

Copy
Use this command to copy a group of objects to be pasted later. Objects can be pasted on the same page or a different page.

Cut
Use this command to remove a group of objects from the page, keeping them to be pasted later. Objects can be pasted on the same page or a different page.

Paste
Use this command to paste a group of objects previously copied or cut.

Copy/Paste
Use this command to copy and paste a group of objects in one shot.

Delete
Use this command to delete a group of objects.

Bring to Top
Use this command to pull an object over the others. The object is only pulled inside its layer ; objects on higher layers will continue to appear over.

Selecting a group of objects
To choose a group of objects, you must surround them with a rectangle. The upper left corner is first set with a mouse click, then the bottom right corner moved with the mouse and set with another click. The mouse button must be released while moving.
To modify only one object, it is simpler to right-click on this object.

New Symbol
Use this command to create a new symbol aimed at doing multiple copies of it.

Rename Symbol
Use this command to change the name of an existing symbol.

Delete a Symbol
Use this command to delete an existing symbol.

Import Symbols
Use this command to import symbols from another document.


Page

Page Size
Use this command to set the size of the page for your drawing. Choose From Printer if your document is to be printed, or Pixels if you want to export your drawing to WMF, JPG, GIF or PNG image files. You can record the new page size with the menu command Default Page as the default page size for new documents.

Grid and Snap
Use this command to toggle on/off a grid and a snap mode for alignment purposes. The grid gives a visual clue while the snap pulls in the mouse cursor to fixed positions. The grid is never printed nor exported to image files. Keyboard shortcuts g and s are used to toggle grid and snap respectively.

Units
Use this command to set units for the document. See the Units page for further explanations.

Layers
See the Layers page for further explanations.
Use this command to set the active layer for the page. This is the layer on which new objects will rest.
Each layer can be made visible or not and protected or not. The active layer must be visible and unprotected.

Color
Use this command to set the background color for your drawing. This color is never printed. Use it to see how your drawing would appear on a color sheet. Exported JPG, GIF and PNG images use it as their background color.

Redraw
Use this command to redraw all the objects on the page. To acheive a better performance, gPage tries to redraw only the parts of the screen where needed. Under certain circumstances small glitches may show. This doesn't affect the quality of the final drawing which can be redrawn using this command.


Zoom

Use this command to change the onscreen size of the document. Choose a small value to view your whole work, or a big one to zoom in for greater precision when editing. This does not affect the size of the final document, only the way it appears on the screen.


Preferences

Repeat Add Object
If this option is checked, immediately after you put a new object on the page, you will be able to put another one of the same type without reverting to the menu or toolbar. To get out from this mode, click the right mouse button or depress the ESC key.

Confirmation on exit
If this option is checked, gPage will ask you to confirm your intention to really quit the program. This command toggles the confirmation on and off.

Default Object Parameters
Opens a dialog box to set the default parameters for the new objects.

Units System
Use this to set the default units system (metric or english).
Default Page
Use this command to set the size and units of the page of the current document as default values for new documents.

This command offers you a summary of topics on which you can get help (from a local help file).

Help Index
This command offers you an index of topics on which you can get help (from a local help file).

gPage on the Web
  1. Go to Web Site
    Use this command to go to gPage's Web site. You must be connected to Internet to use this command.


  2. Online Help
    Use this command to access an online version of this help file (in HTML format). You must be connected to Internet to use this command.


  3. Online Support
    Use this command to go to the Support page on the Web. You will find a collection of frequently asked questions and answers. Tips and tricks to get the maximum from gPage. You must be connected to Internet to use this command.


  4. Send a Email
    Use this command to send a email to the support staff. You may ask questions about gPage, report a bug or suggest improvements. You must be connected to Internet and have a working email program to use this command.
Register gPage
Use this command to enter your registration code. You must buy a registration code to continue to use gPage after the free trial period has expired. This command disappears once the registration is correctly entered.
